Robert C. Byrd National Wildlife Refuge
The nation’s 500th refuge borders Timberline. Managed by the United States Fish and Wildlife Service, these lands provide protected wildlife habitat and recreational opportunity including interpretive hikes, birding, hunting, and fishing.

Dolly Sods
Popular for hiking, backpacking, and horse and llama trekking, the Dolly Sods Wilderness and Scenic Area of the Monongahela National Forest is adjacent to Timberline lands. The Dolly Sods Wilderness Area is located at the top of our scenic chair lift. When the lift is operational, we will attach your bike to the back of your chair. A favorite for the unique features of its windy, highland plateau, the area offers over 30 miles of trails accessible from the resort. Explore the wonder of Dolly Sods on your own or plan a trip with one of many area outfitters.

Blackwater Falls State Park
A must see… this beautiful waterfall, located inside beautiful Blackwater Falls State Park! Just 15 minutes from Timberline Four Seasons Resort. Walk along the paced road through the campground, stop at a table and enjoy a picnic, or follow the stairs that leads you down the winding path to the spectacular view of the falls (handicapped area for viewing also available). There is even a lake open to the public to enjoy swimming or paddle boating!

National Wildlife Refuge
Timberline is surrounded by a wildlife refuge. Take advantage of some of the educational hikes and activities that they offer. For example,
  • Photo tips in the field
  • Wetland Walk
  • Forestry Practices
  • Wildlife, insects, and other crawlers
  • Vegetation of Canaan Valley
  • Wildlife Photo Slide Show
  • Birds, butterflies, and blooms
  • And many, many more!
